A couple of months ago we got the delightful news that we are going to be grandparents.  We knew it was a possibility someday as my son was married last year, so it was just a matter of time.  I think they were a little surprised by the news and so were we.  Honestly what an amazing thing.  I feel like I am basking in sunshine, knowing that my future little grandbaby is growing with my daughter-in-law and son’s loving care.  I am 53 years old and was a young mom at 23, but even though I knew this day would come I had not let myself dream about what that would feel like.  I think the best part of life are these unexpected joys.  I’ve always felt that a new baby in a family is a blessing no matter when it comes along to surprise us.

We still have a few months before we get to meet our little grandchild but I am already planning the adventures we will have.   I can’t wait to see the surprise on it’s little face when we watch birds play in the birdbath, the walks we will take and the trees we will climb.  Okay maybe I won’t be doing the climbing, but this is my dream.  Trips to the zoo in the spring to see the new cubs and other baby animals.  The one thing I look forward to most, is sharing my joy of books.  A day in the hammock reading Charlotte’s Web, Harry Potter and of course Dr. Seuss, who said it so well, “Oh the places we will go!”

Being a parent was amazing but getting the chance to do it again and being the grandparent is a gift of joy, I can’t wait to experience.
