Walk in the Woods

“In the woods we return to reason and faith. There I feel that nothing can befall me in life – no disgrace, no calamity, which nature cannot repair.” by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Last week, even though it is around 1000 degrees here in Texas we decided to take a little walk on the trails near our house. Actually it was a bit of a cold front and was only around 95 degrees. There is nothing quite like the quiet of the woods. We walk through this area in all seasons and it seems to remain still and quiet. During the summer the wildlife is a little more active, we saw a few squirrels, cardinals flitting by and the big black crows. Stepping through the woods allows me to leave the city behind and to feel the stress melt away. As we were starting our walk the giant mosquitos were coming out to feast so we had to make a rapid retreat back home. After a long day at my desk, on my computer, nothing helps like time spent in nature. It had restorative powers, all the way up until I found a tick on my head! That’s when I start thinking about a loft in the city, with nice paved trails and built gardens. Nature works no matter where you find it! I hope you have a chance to get out and enjoy it.
